About

Fog Brain is a side project by me, Gregg Hogan. It’s meant as an easy reference for time frames of dates.

I’ve added some FAQ’s below for things I think may come up. If you have further questions or issues, please feel to reach out to me via my website or on LinkedIn.

What is it?

I started this because, sadly, I can never remember how old my dog is. Sure, I know his birthday, but I could never remember which year. Fog Brain makes it easy to glance at my reminders and find out how old he is with little effort.

It has evolved into a bit more as new ideas popped up, which is why I’ve made it publicly available.

How does it work?

Fog Brain using Open AI’s Chat GPT 3.5 to interpret your reminder. We then store that information on our servers and calculate the time frame on the fly. It’s probably a bit over the top for this kind of website, but it was fun building.

Can I store sensitive information on Fog Brain?

We highly encourage you not to store sensitive information here. Things like social security numbers and phone numbers could be exposed if the website were to be compromised. By entering information on Fog Brain, you assume all liability and are using the website at your own risk.

Are my reminders publicly visible?

Your page is hidden to all other users unless you explicitly set a share code on your profile. Additionally, user pages are not indexed with Google or any other search engine. There is also no ‘search’ functionality. So, the only way someone will find your share page is if you give it out. If you change your share code (or remove it), your old code will be invalidated and that link will no longer work.

To take it a step further, you decide which of reminders are public with a simple checkbox. Privacy is not cached. You hide it and just like that, it’s gone from your public page.

Will Fog Brain be an app?

Realistically, not any time soon. I did build the structure so it will be adaptable if the day comes, but I just don’t have the time currently.

Fog Brain is a web app though. What that means is you can add this website to your home screen and access any of the content offline just like any other app on your phone. The only real difference is it’s not in any app store.

If you use iOS, open this website in Safari, then click ‘Share’ and then ‘Add to Home Screen’. I’m not an android user so I don’t know the exact process, but I believe you can open the website in Chrome, click the 3 little dots, and then ‘Add to Home Screen.’

How do I delete my account?

You can permanently delete your account by going to your profile and clicking the link at the bottom of the page. All of your reminders and personal data will be deleted immediately. Please save any data you’d like to keep before requesting an account deletion; the data is not recoverable.

Are there plans for future development?

Of course! Fog Brain is ever-evolving. If you have a feature request or find a bug, please reach out to me using one of the links above.

That being said, this isn’t a million dollar SaaS website; it’s a side project. Please keep scheduling and my personal costs in mind when sending your suggestions 😜
